(Wellsville, NY) The Rescue Division of the Wellsville Volunteer Ambulance Corps this past summer took delivery of it's Wilderness Emergency Response Vehicle from Carba Fire Technologies, Inc. We have put it to use several times since it was placed into service. In fact, the unit was pressed into service 5 times in the first seventy-two hours of availability. The Response Unit dubbed "Rescue 3" and is one of the first of it's type specifically designed for Rescue and EMS applications. Wellsville has already used it for search and rescue procedures as well as victim/patient removal from locations deep within the forest of the rolling hills of South Western, N.Y. and North Western, Pa. The unit allows for up to 4 rescuers and 1 patient at any one time allowing for Advanced Life Support procedures while in transit from remote locations. Equipped with a Defibrillator, Oxygen, Trauma Equipment, a Stokes Stretcher, Radio Communications, 3000 lb.Winch, Mounted Search Light, and Emergency Lighting. Wellsville, also, has used it during crowded community events where traditional Emergency Vehicles just can't go. Assistant Rescue Chief Matthew Evans calls the vehicle "The best remote access rescue vehicle on the market today" after using everything from converted golf carts, standard all terrain vehicles, and "gator" type units, Evans is convinced his agency made the right choice. He states the unit is "The most flexible" he's seen. "It provides us the versatility we need." From the deepest forest to the most crowded downtown street this multipurpose all terrain, amphibious vehicle will serve the Wellsville, N.Y. area for many years to come. -- Chief Chris Eldridge |
